Summer music delight at the highest level. harriet&friends at Burg Feistritz

The chamber music festival harriet&friends led by cellist and artistic director Harriet Krijgh invites you again to Feistritz Castle this summer! From 29. 6. to 2. 7. 22 four evening concerts and a matinee will take place in the old riding school of the castle.

For the eleventh time, cellist and artistic director Harriet Krijgh gathers loyal companions to play music together at Burg Feistritz. Among them are the best musicians of their guild, such as violinist Baiba Skride and clarinettist Daniel Ottensamer. In a summery, festive atmosphere, they will present an exquisite programme of chamber music. The festival begins with the "Festive Opening" on Wednesday, 29 June at 7 pm. The audience is welcomed to the castle with the light-hearted sounds of Schubert's "Trout Quintet". The wonderful scenery, the magnificent nature at the Wechsel and the music form a symbiosis that invites you to linger. Also on the programme of the first concert is Brahms' Clarinet Quintet in B minor. The second evening of the festival, Thursday, 30 June, will feature the masters of chamber music - Mozart, Brahms and Tchaikovsky. In addition to two piano trios, Mozart's Horn Quintet in E-flat major will be performed. In the first two concerts, the brass parts will be played by two solo brass players of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra , the clarinettist Daniel Ottensamer and the horn player Josef Reif.

Great Masters - Great Compositions

The name of the third concert on Friday, 1 July, is self-explanatory. After the premiere of his septet, Beethoven is said to have exclaimed, in reference to his teacher Haydn: "This is my creation". Dvořák's Piano Quartet in E flat major is a work that need not hide from the great Beethoven, either in form or meaning. It contains unusual sound images in which the piano and string sounds merge perfectly. The grand finale on Saturday, 2 July will be a matinee at 11:00 am that is entirely dedicated to Brahms. After the lush chamber music sounds of the previous day, only two artists at the same time will be on stage at the Alte Reitschule on Saturday morning. The festival concludes with the evening concert on Saturday with Franck and Schubert. Franck's monumental Piano Quintet in F minor marks a departure of French music for new shores. It was premiered in 1880 and, with its floating harmonies, marks the beginning of musical impressionism. On the other hand, there is a work that already recognizes Romanticism on the horizon. Schubert's String Quartet in G major is one of his late works and shows an inner confrontation with life and death, man and God. All in all, a firework of chamber music that leaves nothing to be desired.
