Schloss Altenhof, which has been in the family of the Counts of Salburg-Falkenstein for over 400 years, is situated in a beautiful location high above the wild and romantic Ranna river and the Danube valley. Guests can also enjoy the charm of the old walls and the green, peaceful oasis when they stay in the stylishly furnished holiday apartments.
Whether within the castle itself or in its famously beautiful surroundings, there is hardly a leisure wish that goes unfulfilled. The offerings range from tennis courts on the castle grounds, fishing, and hunting to a golf course and a wildlife park in the immediate vicinity.
The unspoilt countryside is a true holiday paradise for hikers, horse riders and cyclists. The Danube, just 3 km away, also offers a wide range of entertainment.
All apartments feature, in addition to their stylish furnishings, an open fireplace or tiled stove and access to the private park. A fully equipped kitchen and a television are also standard in all apartments. Prices start at €700 per week per apartment. Short- or long-term arrangements are gladly available for all apartments.

The Baroque former hunting lodge, with its own garden on both sides of the building, is divided into two floors. On the ground floor, there is the living room with a fireplace, a library, and a kitchen. Since Schloss Altenhof is home to the largest private castle church in Austria, it is not surprising that the castle also includes a larger rectory. Family-owned for over 420 years
In 1682, the castle was completely destroyed by fire and was rebuilt in its current form by Count Johann Reichard von Salburg. A chapel was also constructed and consecrated in 1708 in honor of St. Mary. In 1724, the castle and chapel were destroyed again by fire but were subsequently rebuilt. The Baroque castle church is considered the largest private castle church in Austria and is richly adorned with stucco work inside. The castle chapel is dedicated to St. Joseph and the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel.
Until 1958, the castle was used as a retirement home for the district of Rohrbach.
Altenhof Castle today
The rooms of the castle are now available for weddings, celebrations, and seminars. The castle also feature a castle garden center which is freely accessible. The castle church is open on Sundays at 8 AM.
Since 1981, Clemens Hellsberg, who served as the chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic from 1997 to 2014, has organized benefit concerts every summer in support of the Malteser Hospital Service.
The castle is owned by the Salburg-Falkenstein family, and the main castle building is not open to the public.
