Today we are opening the doors of the medieval tower for you, dear guest. Here you can spend your holiday in a unique atmosphere and immerse yourself into the history. Every detail has been lovingly restored to make your stay unforgettable. Whether you are interested in the exciting stories of past centuries or simply want to enjoy the peace and beauty of the surrounding nature - the Leiben Tower offers everything your heart desires.
You can rent the tower as a whole or one of the two flats as an individual holiday home.
During the renovation, we focused on preserving the character of the rooms, the stonework and the old substance. The holiday flats were furnished with furniture from the old stock as well as with modern, selected pieces from the interior decorator Lorenz Wachau. The entire tower has new underfloor heating, which is powered by geothermal energy. The indoor climate is kept at a pleasantly warm level all year round to prevent moisture from forming on the walls. The open fireplaces can also be used on particularly cold days. 8000m² of garden with fruit trees and shrubs are available for communal use. Each flat has its own terrace with garden furniture, barbecue station with gas cartridge and barbecue utensils.
Overlooking the forests of the region
The larger of the two tower flats, which extends over three floors, is the centrepiece of the Leiben Tower Apartments. The holiday flat offers two rooms with a double bed (180×200), each with its en-suite bathroom and WC. The spacious kitchen is located on the ground floor and is equipped with an induction hob with teppanyaki grill plate, oven and steam cooker as well as all kitchen utensils and crockery. The dining area with a large wooden table offers space for up to 10 people to enjoy cosy meals together. There is another separate WC on the ground floor. On the top floor, the so-called "Warte" or "Aussichtswarte", from which you have a wonderful view over the landscape and our garden, you can make yourself particularly cosy. Read a book by the open fireplace on cold winter days or relax on one of the two sofas in front of the flatscreen (smart TV) and unwind. Wifi is available throughout the apartment. The two sofas have a pull-out function (140×200) and offer 2 additional sleeping places. This means that 6 guests can be accommodated in the "Warte" flat.
Cosy atmosphere with historical charm
The flat on the lower two floors is particularly impressive with its historic vaulted ceiling. In some places, the inscriptions on the wall from days gone by have been accentuated. This flat has one bedroom with a double bed (180×200) in the former dungeon of the tower, the visibility of the old stone wall has been preserved and restored. There is a bathroom with shower and separate WC. The small kitchen with a dining table for 4 guests offers all amenities. An induction hob, oven, fridge, dishwasher, kettle and a Nespresso coffee machine. The spacious living room with comfortable couch, including pull-out function for 2 additional sleeping places, offers enough space for socialising. The open fireplace creates a cosy and warm atmosphere. There is a flatscreen TV (smart TV with internet) in the living room. Wifi is available throughout the apartment.

The free-standing tower to the west of Leiben Castle is in some sources called the "Hunger Tower". The castle dungeon carved into the rock, the moat, the strong foundation walls and the free-standing hunger tower still testify this medieval castle, which was once even the robber's nest of Hans von Fritzelsdorf.
Leiben Castle was first mentioned in documents in 1196 and 1237 and was owned by the sovereigns until 1338, in the 18th century by the Freiherren von Fürnberg, from 1796 by the imperial family and from 1918 by the so-called "Habsburg-Lorraine Family Fund". The castle has been owned by the Republic of Austria since 1945 and is used for cultural and social events.
Our mother/grandmother Mechtildis "Tilde" Kleinberger fell in love with the tower after moving to Leiben in the 1970s and was determined to move in and live there with her husband Gerhard. After several years of negotiations, the two of them were able to buy the defence tower and start converting it into a residential tower. Unfortunately, our father/grandfather died before the tower was completed and it remained standing for decades.
Although many family members recognised the immense potential of this historic building, they lacked the financial means to realise one of the many visionary ideas. For emotional reasons, however, Susanne could not part with this project close to her mother's heart and courageously decided to renovate the tower herself and offer it as a holiday home. Her son Sebastian joined the project as a creative spirit and support to overcome the major challenges of the project. In 2021/2022, the time had come - after years of planning and brainstorming, the exciting renovation and restoration of the tower began.
What began as a simple renovation quickly turned into a true masterpiece. New electrical wiring and installations were laid, exquisite box-type windows found their place and the historic brickwork now shines in its former glamour. Almost like a new building, but with the spirit of the past.
