    History

Viticulture and art characterise the history of the Perusini family

The Perusini winery is one of the 50 most historic and oldest wineries in Italy and was listed in Veronelli's "I vignaioli storici italiani". Today, Teresa Perusini, together with her husband and sons, is the fourth generation to run the winery. The whole family dedicates its work to the revival of autochthonous grape varieties and the preservation of cultural substance.

    Art historian and winemaker
Teresa Perusini is an art historian with a professorship at the University of Venice. Her specialities are the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Her husband Giacomo de Pace is a technician and civil engineer. Together with their sons, they take on the work of the winery and share a commitment that goes far beyond the usual activities of a winemaker.

    Rediscovery of indigenous grapes
The Perusini family has been significantly involved in the rediscovery of the Friuli grape varieties that have disappeared. Grandfather Giacomo Perusini brought Picolit back into the barrel. The grape for the typical Friuli sweet wine was highly appreciated by the noble houses in the 18th century. Then it was forgotten until Giacomo rediscovered it. Papa Gianpaolo did the same with Ribolla Gialla which was thought to have disappeared and daughter Teresa found an ancient Merlot variety that her grandfather had brought from France and which turned out to be a lost clone. This Merlot is bottled in a magnum bottle under the name of Torre di Zucco, named after the tower that rises in its peculiar shape unmistakably next to the winery.
