Opening Hours 2026:

May 21 to September 27

The landscape with the Samaranger and Fernstein lakes is one of the most extraordinary natural beauties of Tyrol. The romantic islands, the quiet forests and the clear mountain creeks were voted the most beautiful places in Tyrol by the viewers of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation ORF.

High above the emerald-green Fernstein Lake rises the privately managed Schloss Fernstein—a setting scarcely more impressive than one could imagine. First documented in 1519, the castle served for centuries as a popular hunting lodge and welcomed numerous distinguished guests, including Sigismund “the Rich in Coins,” Emperor Maximilian I and many other notable figures of their time.

Around 1720, the castle was adorned with particularly exquisite stucco work featuring intricately designed fruit garlands. In the framed central cartouche, a crowned Madonna of the Protective Mantle with a double-headed eagle is depicted, watching protectively over Schloss Fernstein and the city of Innsbruck. This Baroque ensemble is complemented by two portrait medallions of Emperor Joseph I and his consort Amalia of Brunswick-Lüneburg.

Today, the owning family, together with their team, ensures the well-being of their guests. Here, body, mind, and soul find an ideal place for regeneration. The fresh mountain air invigorates, the impressive natural surroundings inspire, and the idyllic lawns provide space for rest and relaxation.

The elegant castle has found a new life as an exceptionally welcoming destination and today presents itself as a particularly comfortable hotel. Enjoy 8 elegant suites in the castle and 18 lovingly designed hotel rooms offering 4-star comfort in a setting rich with tradition.

We look forward to your visit.
